Recent research has shown that the majority of Australians tend to have a problem with abortion morally.
That would have to mean there was strong support for Senator Guy Barnett’s move (Page 3) to end Medicare funding for second-trimester and late-term abortions.
The Leader sometimes receives letters from people asking why doesn’t the Church do more about opposing abortion; well, here’s a chance for the Church – and that means all of us, including the ones sitting in the pews – to act.
As bioethicist Ray Campbell suggests, Catholics should be encouraging senators to support Senator Barnett’s motion.
Both sides of politics will have a conscience vote so it is a perfect time to send politicians a message.
