THERE is every reason to fear that families are on the road to becoming an endangered species in Australian society.
The basic unit of society is losing its importance both in the federal and state arenas as new laws turn human embryos into fodder for experimentation and the meaning of the word ‘spouse’ is watered down and redefined to include people in de facto or homosexual relationships.
In the federal sphere, a licence to kill has been awarded to scientists to use human embryos for alleged and unproven medical or commercial benefits.
Meanwhile, under recent amendments to Queensland’s laws, marriage is no longer regarded as a union with unique sacred and legal privileges.
All Catholics should stand up and voice their concerns about these and other attempts to devalue the family’s place as a crucial part of society.
