Thinking of our neighbours

CARITAS Australia tells us that Australians have increased their giving in recent years – something we can feel good about.

But there is definitely no room for complacency. We still need to be disturbed by the plight of millions of people around the world living in dire poverty. They are our “neighbours”.

This challenge was the focus of the Australian Catholic bishops’ Social Justice Sunday Statement – Who is My Neighbour? Australia’s Role as a Global Citizen – last September. The statement chellenged us to be good neighbours in the sense of Jesus’ example to us in loving our neighbour.

Again this Lent, Project Compassion campaign gives us a chance to show our love of neighbour in a practical way.
