THIS edition tells the story of a week marked by great joy and at the same time great sadness in the life of Brisbane archdiocese – joy at the ordination of new priests Frs John Echewodo and Bryan Roe (Pages 1 and 3), and sadness at the death of Fr Tom Boland (Pages 5 and 10).
Archbishop John Bathersby fittingly paid tribute to Fr Boland at the ordination Mass, held the day after the historian priest’s death.
The Archbishop told how Fr Boland, when speaking to a hospital chaplain shortly before his death, said “I feel like a school boy getting ready to go on holidays.”
A Brisbane parishioner marvelling, days after, at that story of faith said he would never forget those words.
It’s one small indicator of how the spirit of our leaders in faith lives on, and how they can inspire our daily lives in ways they may never realise.
