THE spate of attacks on Australian churches and mosques in Sydney and Brisbane since the September 11 terrorist strikes on the United States is reprehensible.
Places of worship traditionally have been houses of refuge and protection during times of conflict.
Those responsible for either setting fire to or vandalising them in revenge for what has happened overseas are committing acts of terrorism too.
This type of behaviour is unAustralian and deserves to be condemned in the strongest way.
Australia has always prided itself on being a free and peaceful country. There can be no place for crimes that strike at the heart of this tradition.
