As the force of media coverage of the devastation of Queensland’s recent natural disasters fades, many communities will be feeling the pain for a long time to come.
Many people will struggle to recover.
It is up to the rest of us not to forget them.
That will be less likely with these disasters because, if we weren’t directly affected, most of us would have relatives and friends in the towns and cities that experienced the tragedies.
Archbishop John Bathersby’s move to establish a Cath-olic Emergency Relief Fund in Brisbane archdiocese is a welcome move in helping us to respond to these disasters and others that will come.
It will ensure that the archdiocese stands ready whenever help is needed. It’s probably a good idea if many could consider regular donations to bolster this fund and improve our readiness.
