THREE cheers for the bishops of Queensland for their excellent, well balanced paper on the need to save the Great Barrier Reef (CL 15/8/04).
And three cheers for A. McDonnell (CL 29/8/04) for her call for more action to save the 100,000 babies aborted annually in our lucky country (not lucky for them).
We need to save our babies and to save the country for the babies that are born.
Water is a pressing issue and food will be.
Our reef needs immediate attention not only for its aesthetic appeal (our babies when older are sure to appreciate this remarkable work of God) and will increasingly need the marine life it nurtures for food supply.
Let us treat all the works of God with respect – they are interdependent.
I write as one who has held office with Right to Life and has worked for and supported environmental movements for at least 40 years.
