THE Brisbane archdiocesan Priests’ Assembly at Caloundra successfully allowed clergy to share and talk about the issues facing them, and indeed all Catholics, in a crucial time for the Church.
It is noteworthy that this was the first time since 1983 that a gathering of clergy on such a scale had taken place.
The overriding message of hope that emerged among participants at the assembly is a positive sign that priests, though fewer in number, have a critical role to play in the direction and life of the Church.
Let’s hope this assembly of priests will lead to similar gatherings in the future. The archdiocesan Church will be in a better position to face the challenges as a result.
