CHURCH leaders have overwhelmingly welcomed Federal Parliament’s historic apology to the Stolen Generations of indigenous Australians.
They hail its significance in promoting reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians.
However, despite this majority positive response there are still many Australians, Catholics among them, who believe an apology was unnecessary.
If non-indigenous Australians imagined that their own families were part of the Stolen Generations, how would we feel then – having children, our own, ourselves or our siblings taken away, all ties severed?
This move is a positive step for all Australians.
