THE comments of your correspondents Leona Sullivan (Have Your Say, CL 23/10/05) and Les Savage (Have Your Say, CL 31/10/05) on all Catholics having the right to receive the Eucharist were interesting, but they forgot the one important point – reconciliation.
How many Catholics receive the Eucharist Sunday after Sunday without ever going to reconciliation?
Catholics are privileged to have this sacrament. It’s a great psychological relief to confess our sins and receive absolution.
Our Lady at Medjugorje asked for monthly confession. The Pope has never said we don’t have to go to reconciliation.
The only perfect human being was Jesus. The rest of us are sinners.
If the Queen was coming to visit we would clean our house until it was fit to receive her.
So why don’t we go to reconciliation and cleanse our souls before receiving Jesus into our hearts?
I was taught that when we go to reconciliation the priest is there to help us and give us absolution. We are really confessing our sins to Jesus.
The wonderful feeling of God’s place that comes into our hearts after receiving absolution is something we should treasure.
May Jesus and the Holy Spirit touch the hearts of all Catholics and encourage them to go regularly to reconciliation.
