In the past week, our region was devastated by its worst flood in over thirty years. Many homes were overwhelmed, and there has been heartbreak and destruction of property and infrastructure that will take quite some time to rebuild.
Our parish in Ingham is grateful for the many calls of support that we have received from across the state, and indeed across the country.
Archbishop Bathersby even proposed an Archdiocesan Appeal for Ingham – which is indicative of the Archbishop’s compassion and thoughtfulness.
However, while so grateful for offers of such great assistance, the Ingham Parish asks everyone to focus on the situation in Victoria.
Here in Ingham, despite the overwhelming flood-waters that shut down our region, closed our schools, and destroyed our homes and property, we all survived.
We will rebuild. Our lives will return to normal.
It is a devastatingly different situation for so many in Victoria and beyond.
On behalf of the Ingham Parish, thank you so much for reaching out to us. We are most grateful!
But even in our own difficulties and losses, we are all resolved nonetheless to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you and all Australians in reaching out to the people of Victoria at this shocking hour of such monstrous devastation and overwhelming sorrow.
May Mary Help of Christians, Patroness of Australia, pray for us.
