IN response to the rather contrary letter from Andrew Jackson (“DLP are a pro-life party”, CL 5/2/12), Cherish Life “persists” in not pointing out that there is only one political party in Australia that is pro-life because CLQ does not promote parties irrespective of their claims, but rather qualifies the individual sitting member/candidate prior to elections.
The term “pro-life” has wide-ranging meanings from person to person e.g. a lady on our mail-out list who was “pro-life” asked to be deleted as she didn’t have a problem with RU-486.
Others call themselves pro-life but have no problem with euthanasia.
So I reiterate the statement that there is no pro-life party irrespective of their claims and good intentions.
There may well be many in the party claiming to hold pro-life views but CLQ never promotes parties but individuals.
The “poor me” cry of never having a DLP speaker – there are no DLP sitting members in Queensland and CLQ does not have candidates speak at functions.
Re political action, there have been numerous political campaigns run, particularly in the past two elections, one state, one federal, with heavy involvement by CLQ.
The mere fact that CLQ is not tax deductible is due to our political lobbying.
To attack with baseless claims an organisation that is happy to qualify candidates, and may well invite an elected representative to speak at future events should it be deemed relevant, seems a little imprudent or a case of sour grapes.
