THE presumption of innocence before a person has been found guilty in a court of law is one of the tenets of our legal system.
And yet it seems that people are increasingly being judged and convicted by public opinion, based on what is said about a person either through the media or through malicious gossip.
Sydney Archbishop George Pell has found himself the victim of such a situation over an allegation of sexual abuse which was first posted on an Internet site.
It is becoming increasingly easy to cast aspersions about a person with the modern communications technology now available.
Before making any rash judgments about either Archbishop Pell or the alleged abuse victim in this case, it would be wise to allow the proper investigative processes to take their course.
