PRO-life groups are being wise in speaking out now in opposition to any possible moves to soften Queensland abortion laws, instead of waiting until a bill is produced in parliament.
Former state Labor MP Bonny Barry says a draft bill to decriminalise abortion in Queensland is ready and waiting for any MP who wants to table it.
Premier Anna Bligh has indicated she supports a relaxation of abortion law. She is quoted as saying “I have no intention of bringing the matter to parliament because I am unconvinced there is sufficient support in the House to achieve that change”.
The challenge for pro-life groups and the wider Church is to ensure that remains the case.
