QUEENSLAND Governor Penelope Wensely impressed members of the audience with her speech on Blessed Mary MacKillop at a book launch on the saint’s Queensland experience and legacy.
It was not just her words that impressed but the way she delivered them. I was not at the event but others have come away convinced of Governor Wensley’s genuine admiration for Mary MacKillop.
The governor apparently showed she had thorough knowledge of Mary, her qualities and her work, and spoke from the heart as she praised Mary and the sisters of her order for their goodness and the goodness of their mission.
And the response of author Sr Margaret McKenna is typical of Mary’s way – humble gratitude for the support they have received from the people they have served.
