LENT this year presents us with an abundance of prayer intentions and avenues for helping the needy.
Following our summer of disasters around Australia, we need look no further than our own backyard.
Then, over in New Zealand, we have the people of Christchurch recovering from a devastating earthquake.
On top of that is the unbelievable tragedy in Japan where the pain and suffering is still unfolding.
We could join with Pope Benedict XVI in praying for peace in Libya and the rest of that region, where innocent people are being slaughtered.
In all of the disaster regions, aid agencies are stretched to the limits in helping victims back to a normal way of life.
In many cases, this could take years and the agencies will be relying on ongoing support and generosity.
And, while we pray for people affected by disaster and war, we in Australia have many blessings for which we can thank God.
