THOSE have us for whom gambling is not a problem, may find it difficult to understand what all the fuss is about and why governments and Churches are giving so much attention to “responsbile gambling” (Page 3).
Surely gambling is one of Australia’s favourite pasttimes, and it’s all a bit of fun.
But, when we have the St Vincent de Paul Society and Centacare representatives becoming involved and devoting so much of their time and energy to the issue, it’s an indication of the seriousness of the problem.
They are the ones picking up the pieces of broken lives and families, and they are people who like to do what they can to prevent such misery. Governments would do well to heed their advice.
