Personal plea for prayer

Deacon Gary Stone’s recent appeal for parishes to remember in their Prayers of the Faithful all Australian soldiers on active duty had a chilling postscript at the funeral of Private Grant Kirby.

A comment made to Deacon Stone by a soldier who had been with Private Kirby when he died emphasised the importance of the military chaplain’s appeal to parishes.

The soldier asked Deacon Stone to pray for him and asked him to preside at his funeral should he be killed in the remaining six weeks he has to serve in Afghanistan.

How could we not join our prayers with those of Deacon Stone?
