THE permanent diaconate is one of the good news stories emanating from Brisbane archdiocese.
In the past 12 months three men have taken the final step to ordination as a deacon.
As more come on board, permanent deacons are set to take on a more significant role in the Church in Brisbane.
Their support role in parishes means they are well placed to relieve some of the heavy load carried by an aging priesthood.
They also have the ability to share their baptismal gift in new ways in serving God and the Church.
The promising direction of the permanent diaconate offers a welcome injection of faith in the future of the Church in Brisbane.
