IT is frightening to think that among the current generation of Australian children, the majority will grow up without a grounding in the Christian faith.
Yet that’s the finding of a National Church Life Survey research project.
Admittedly, the large representation of Catholic schools means that the Catholic Church will probably not be affected as much as some other Christian traditions, but the figures are nonetheless alarming.
Falling church attendances among adults and the failure of many parents to instil a full awareness of faith in the lives of their children are critical reasons for this new Churchless generation.
Until some of these parents start taking responsibility for their children’s faith, the Church may not have a next generation.
