THE crisis of child sex abuse in the US Church has clearly shown what can happen when an institution fails to address a serious problem in its ranks which threatens to undermine its standing.
The Church has come under greater scrutiny than other institutions in recent times, but it needs to be remembered that it is not the only place where abuse has occurred.
All institutions need to guard against children falling prey to those of its members who would take advantage of God’s little ones in this horrendous way.
The Australian Church has made significant strides since it faced a similar crisis of abuse a few years ago.
The American Church needs to catch up after having left the problem to fester for far too long.
