AUSTRALIA’S decision to deploy troops to the Middle East ahead of a declaration of war against Iraq is premature and morally unjustifiable.
No case has been established for Australia’s involvement in a military build-up in the Middle East, let alone an invasion of Iraq by the United States or any other country for that matter.
The latest moves undermine the UN weapons inspectors who have been sent to ascertain whether Iraq has so-called ‘weapons of mass destruction’, a term which has not been clearly defined.
What about the United States? It has spent billions of dollars on weapons which could also cause mass destruction of innocent lives.
The hidden agenda for an attack on Iraq really lies with oil and the overwhelming greed to control this commodity.
