Mother of humility

MOTHER Teresa’s beatification today is an important milestone recognising a humble woman whose name and blue and white sari-clad figure was a model of compassion and self-sacrifice to people around the world.

Her journey so far on the road to sainthood has been meteoric, and understandably so.

She gave love to the poverty-stricken and the sick in Indian society, never looking for anything in return.

She was an inspiration to men and women who willingly gave up everything in life to share her load.

Even public figures wanted to shake her wrinkled hand and share a moment in the presence of this remarkable nun.

Mother Teresa was truly a visible witness of God’s presence on earth.

Pope John Paul II has given the green light for Mother Teresa’s fast-track to sainthood. One cannot doubt his wisdom in doing so.
