I WANT to thank Elizabeth Harrington very much for her August 19 article in The Catholic Leader titled, “Explaining about the Mass”.
At long last someone has provided some compelling, sensible and simple explanation for why the Roman Missal was revised and why we ended up with the revised liturgy we experience today.
It should be read at every parish Sunday Mass!
I am a liturgical musician (guitar, bass pedals and voice) and have closely followed the liturgical movement since discovering the Liturgy Documents in a Marist Brothers novitiate in 1968.
My wife and I have led music at Masses for 38 years.
I read Pope Benedict’s very clever document about the increased availability of the Tridentine Mass and understand his reasons for doing it.
But I am a little tired of the perception that everything after Paul VI’s revision, happened with absolute haste, without thought and that abuses in the liturgy were utterly widespread.
Anyway, from here on in, having read your article, I am going to proudly proclaim myself a traditionalist.
