I WOULD like to congratulate Nanango teenager Miriam Thompson on her article “Excited about the faith” (CL 8/3/09).
Although I am very much older than Miriam I could relate to a lot of what she said, as I too had experienced similar happenings in my early years at high school from my fellow students, the majority of whom were non-Catholics, and from my neighbour’s children.
Although all of us children in the neighbourhood played together and were all friends none of them were Catholics except us, and they would sometimes make fun of us because we always went to church on Sundys and once a month had the priest to our place for lunch.
I never had the pleasure of attending World Youth Day but in my childhood days the Mass was still said in Latin and somehow always gave me a much deeper belief that the Eucharist was Jesus Christ.
Whenever I receive the Holy Eucharist and go back to my seat to pray, tears seem to fall to my cheeks for no particular reason except that I always feel honoured to have received the Body of Christ Jesus.
You are an inspiration to all your peers and fellow students and I wish you luck in your challenges in this your final year of school.
