TWO stories side by side on page 3 give rise for us as Australian Catholics to examine our attitudes and actions in regards to our humanity and compassion.
One of the stories features Bishop Christopher Saunders’ comments on Australia’s treatment of asylum seekers, and the other mentions next Saturday’s Walk for Little Feet.
Bishop Saunders rightly mentions that asylum seekers are among the most vulnerable people in the world and that Australia will be judged by the way it treats them.
He goes on to point out how we would be found wanting if our attitude to refugees in recent months was any measure of our humanity.
Walk for Little Feet aims to raise funds for Right to Life Australia and to raise a voice for unborn babies at risk of being aborted.
They too would rank among the most vulnerable in the world. With us aborting babies at the rate of about 90,000 a year and in a rush to reject asylum seekers, the compassion stocks appear to be low.
