AS you and your readers (city and rural) would be well aware, this state of Queensland is suffering through a horrendous drought.
In fact, the area in which my family and I live, central Queensland, are coping with the worst 10-month dry period on record, and with no sign of the weather conditions improving, according to the weather bureau.
Crops are failing, stock water supplies are running out, pastures for the cattle to graze are almost non-existent in a lot of areas, and there is an extreme shortage of water supplies for household domestic use.
Wouldn’t it be a wonderful idea if the Catholic Church throughout this state could see fit to maybe place one weekend aside to devote to praying for beneficial drought-breaking rains for the whole of our state?
Good drought-breaking rains benefit everybody, not just the rural members of our congregations.
My family and I cannot understand why the relevant liturgy committees of the various parishes and the diocesan councils of the various dioceses have not made a move in this direction up to now.
I know there are some priests in some parishes who do pray for rain on a regular basis, however I regret to say they appear to be in the absolute minority.
Hopefully we will have a prayerful weekend in the near future throughout Queensland asking God to relieve our state of this wretched drought.
