REVELATIONS of the types of situations that young people encountered at this year’s Schoolies Festival on the Gold Coast are enough to shock any responsible parent.
As much as young people think they can take care of themselves, the reality is that lack of experience in life and an attitude that nothing can happen to them can lead to trouble at events such as Schoolies.
The presence of children as young as 10 at such huge gatherings needs to be acted on by authorities if parents cannot take responsibility.
Thank God for groups such as Rebeccas Community and Rosies Youth Mission who attended Schoolies this year and prevented many young people from falling into trouble.
They deserve our support when thousands more young people will flock to Schoolies next year.
