LAST week’s handover of power to a provisional government should be welcomed as the beginning of a new era for an embattled Iraq.
The road ahead will be rocky, but this is a real opportunity for Iraqis to take matters into their own hands.
Nevertheless, the international community must not abandon the Iraqi people.
Whatever one believes about the rights or wrongs of the US-led intervention in Iraq, the rebuilding of the nation must have international support.
The alternative is anarchy or even a return to another dictatorship.
