THE human tragedy of the war on Iraq is starting to show its face.
Iraqi civilians who have suffered for years under the harsh regime of Saddam Hussein and economic sanctions from the West are now caught in the crossfire of battle.
Contrary to original predictions that this would be a conflict with a swift resolution, the outlook now is for a protracted and possibly wider battle drawing in neighbouring countries in the Middle East.
It is not surprising that the Iraqi people do not know who to trust.
Both sides in this conflict appear willing to sacrifice their lives in the hunger for victory.
