THE Senate’s narrow vote to allow the cloning of human embryos for experimentation is a disappointment, but it is not the end of the story.
All ethically minded Australians can still make a difference and help to defeat the bill by writing to their federal MP and making their voice heard.
The bill is set to go to the House of Representatives in a few weeks.
Contrary to popular belief, politicians do listen to their constituents, and if they detect a groundswell of opinion on any topic they will usually act accordingly.
This is particularly the case if, as in this situation, a conscience vote is allowed.
