YOU could feel the buzz of anticipation as 800,000 people converged on a former military base on Toronto’s outskirts for World Youth Day.
Here were young people who had travelled from every corner of the world to give Christian witness and see Pope John Paul II give them the hope and guidance that so many of their age need at the beginning of the 21st century.
And they were not disappointed.
The Pope spoke to them, and despite the huge age difference and the physical effort it must have taken to deliver his speech, they listened attentively.
His message was universal but also one these young people could grasp.
Young people need to model their lives on Christ if they want to save the world.
It’s a message we could all do well to heed.
