HAVING just returned from Mass celebrated by our truly faithful priest I find myself wondering at our great need for more priests.
After his resurrection, Jesus spent 40 days with the disciples speaking to them of the Kingdom of God and then ascended to his Father.
Jesus physically has now gone, and they are silent.
We know the extraordinary events of Pentecost as these fearful men are anointed with tongues of fire and speak with great boldness in many languages of the mighty acts of God.
The incredible change, courage, wisdom of these “uneducated fisherman” is a miracle in itself.
It is this Holy Spirit who will give the gifts we need to live loving our Saviour, the strength to resist the temptations and insinuations of evil, the longing to share our faith and accept the honour and responsibility of priesthood.
And I say to myself and all who read, have I asked the Holy Spirit to come to me, make his home in me guide me and give me the wisdom and courage I need to be whom God has called me to be.
Here in truth is the answer to our need for priests.
