AUSTRALIANS will be encouraged to work longer into what were once their retirement years under proposed changes to superannuation.
The practicality of this appears to have been lost on those who dreamt up this idea.
For some, working longer will not be a problem, but for others who may not have the benefit of good health, the proposal could leave them in financial strife in their golden years.
Most Australians have worked hard all their lives in the hope of retiring without the need to struggle to survive.
Any changes to existing superannuation rules need to ensure that the retirees of the future will not find themselves living below the poverty line and unable to afford the increasing health costs that are associated with old age.
Another problem is that jobs are scarce enough for people aged over 45. They are next to impossible to find if someone is in their sixties.
