ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby, reflecting on 10 years as head of the Brisbane Church, noted that one of his greatest challenges has been how to halt Catholics’ drift away from the faith.
It is a difficult question and a concern not just shared by the archbishop.
Most churchgoing Catholics will be aware that congregations are shrinking and younger Catholics are not attending Mass.
And yet young people are still searching for spiritual meaning in their lives.
The way to encourage them to return to the Church must lie in showing them that the Church has something special to offer.
This is the responsibility of all Catholics, not just our Church leaders. It is by simple Christ-like example that we show others that God dwells in our hearts. This light will shine like a beacon to those who are seeking Him.
