THE way the people of Childers have come together to help the survivors of the tragic fire that snuffed out 15 young lives in a backpackers hostel in the town, is a reminder of the true generosity of spirit that comes to the fore in times of adversity.
The sheer horror of the tragedy has touched the hearts of people around the country and around the world, but it is the people of Childers who have been on the spot, offering a helping hand to the survivors and supporting them in their grief.
Nothing will bring back those who died in the inferno, but the grief their families and friends must be feeling will be shared by everybody who has lost a loved one in tragic circumstances.
It is for them that we should offer our prayers at this time of grieving.
