THE number of people who attended the National Catholic Family Gathering in Sydney last weekend is reason to be confident that the family unit is not doomed, as some would have us believe.
While statistics, both in Australia and in other Western countries, show an increasing rate of divorce and family breakdown, there is good reason to believe that if the many benefits of family living are promoted, more people will be prepared to enter and stay together as families.
Western society is already seeing the social and economic problems caused by family breakdowns.
It is time to turn the tide back in favour of the family unit if the world is to have a balanced and viable future.
