THE past week saw the Senate turned into a chamber for spruiking false promises of miracle cures.
In the debate over whether to allow research on embryonic stem cells, an array of senators claimed that embryo testing could open the way to curing everything but the common cold.
Their claims were without scientific foundation or proof, and in many cases the senators voicing them had been manipulated by advocacy groups that were peddling impossible dreams rather than reality.
This disregard for human life in the quest for research at any cost can only result in a spiral towards a breakdown in respect for human life at all levels.
