IT is easy to lose sight of the significance of the Resurrection story when society’s focus is on Easter bunnies and chocolate eggs.
Yet Easter would not be anywhere near as special if it wasn’t for Christ’s death for us on the cross and his rising from the dead three days later.
Public displays of the Way of the Cross, such as the ecumenical one staged each year down the main street of Samford on Brisbane’s northern rim, remind many people, particularly those of no faith, that there is a more important reason for celebrating Easter than simply to indulge in chocolate eggs.
The zeal shown by the Churches of Samford could well be a model for many other towns and communities around the country.
