I AM not a regular reader of The Catholic Leader rather I am one who makes a purchase after discerning the columns and stories.
This week we have the Pope’s resignation.
On reading the “Have your say” in today’s Leader (17/2/13) on unity in regard to reception of Communion one can see that there is variety of opinion on the subject for to receive Christ is not a small thing and very personal.
With the Eucharist we receive the Creator of the universe and this is a miracle of no equal.
I have seen people of many different nationalities receive Communion while kneeling.
Most go up for Communion at the very end so no one is inconvenienced.
Variety and diversity is what makes us Catholic; the Universal Church.
Unity is not sameness or cookie cutter Catholics, it is being big enough to accept that people honour and reverence God in different ways.
The suggestion by Margaret Bolger (Letters 17/2/13) that everyone is going to trip over one another is a furphy.
With training we can do almost anything as human beings.
Kneeling to receive Communion is hardly a dangerous activity and with planning and love of neighbour we can accommodate those who practise reverence for Christ in that way.
