ARCHBISHOP John Bathersby, addressing the crowd at the Heart of the City Fiesta of Faith in Brisbane last weekend, summed up the hope World Youth Day could hold for us when he said, “Faith, energy, happiness and joy … that comes from World Youth Day is a blessing for our archdiocese and Queensland and indeed for all Australia.”
That “faith, energy, happiness and joy” was infectious, even before WYD08 opened on Tuesday, as local and international pilgrims prepared for the event in Brisbane archdiocese. The hope is that this will have lasting results.
As young people, renewed in their faith and full of enthusiasm, return from WYD08 it will be up to the rest of the Church to make a place for the blessings to flourish.
