THE message loud and clear from the Church is that Australia needs to be acting more humanely in dealing with asylum seekers (pages 1, 2 and 3).
That message is coming from all levels, including bishops, those who work directly with migrants and refugees and those who advocate for the victims of injustice.
They want our politicians to step back from the power struggles and make decisions based on compassion for the people involved.
We can all heed the reminders from Clyde Cosentino and Phil Glendenning (page 3) that compassion, far from being a sign of weakness, takes courage.
