Hopefully, now that the Federal election is over Australians can expect more compassion and decency in policies relating to asylum seekers.
We can be grateful that our Church leaders are speaking out in an effort to bring public focus back to a sane and humane approach to the debate (Page 1).
For too long the debate has been skewed by people trying to score political points by demonising asylum seekers and trying to promote irrational fear within the community.
Most fair-minded people would expect our politicians to listen carefully to what our Church leaders have to say about the treatment of women and children among asylum seekers.
