CHRIST was born for all humankind, not just those who believe.
So it is ridiculous for anyone to be coerced into apologising for saying “Merry Christmas”, as the principal of a Yeppoon state school was by a non-believing parent.
The vast majority of Australians rightly accept and embrace the Christian traditions of Christmas and Easter, at least in name.
We are a tolerant nation and accept that, as newcomers settle here, they will bring with them their own sets of beliefs.
But we should never be forced to water down our own beliefs in the process.
Christmas is not just another holiday. Christians should always be allowed to, and indeed have an obligation to, share the Good News with others that Christ was born at Christmas.
Perhaps if more people understood the real message of Christmas, it would be a happier time for everyone.
