“MAY they all be one, just as, Father, you are in me and I am in you, so that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me.” (John 17:21)
It’s a prayer of Jesus that underpins the quest for Christian unity – a prayer that Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane (page 1) is inviting us to live.
If it was the desire of Jesus in his prayer to the Father, then his followers will share that desire and his Holy Spirit will be with us in our efforts to achieve unity.
Archbishop Bathersby is leading us to focus more on that reality and what we have in common than to be overwhelmed by the differences that can hinder unity.
If we don’t, the differences will keep us apart.
