A SERIES of events celebrating the life of Blessed Mary MacKillop this year to mark the centenary of her death have generated a great deal of excitement.
But that is nothing compared with what is building.
Even if Rome was never to declare her a saint, a groundswell of support will ensure she will go on inspiring people in the faith. Her closest followers among the Sisters of St Joseph are well aware of the good that Mary’s influence has and will have beyond the Church.
As Sr Monica Cavanagh (page 1) says, Mary becoming a saint would be wonderful news “not only for the order but all Catholics and indeed all Australians”.
Queensland Josephite provincial Sr Moya Campbell declared to a crowd on Mary’s feast day that “Mary MacKillop is for all of us”.
