AROUND the country, thousands of people pledged to become Australian citizens on January 26, Australia Day.
They joined millions more who celebrated Australia Day and showed their pride in a great nation.
How many of the born and bred Australians at these celebrations remembered that this country was built on migrants and refugees from every corner of the world?
Today, the children and grandchildren of these arrivals, many of whom toiled in the rural and outback expanses, are making their mark in Australia as proud citizens.
And now a new wave of migrants and refugees, like Divine Word Missionary Father Peter Tam Tran, whose story is featured on this week’s back page, is continuing that trend.
May their welcome to Australia be warm and may their dedication be an inspiration to other Australians.
