A NEW wave of joy and enthusiasm carried Brisbane archdiocese’s Synod Assembly from May1-4.
The 700-plus Catholics who took part in this historic event will have returned home last Sunday aware that the Holy Spirit was well and truly present and guiding the assembly members.
But the Synod Assembly is not the end of the story.
It is now the role of Archbishop John Bathersby to prayerfully consider the ideas presented from the Synod Assembly and set a new direction for the archdiocese.
The weeks leading up to July 27, when he will respond to the recommendations and announce this new direction, will be important and should have the prayers of all Catholics in the archdiocese.
Looking back in a few years, the Brisbane Church will remember the past week as a momentous time of renewal in the history of the archdiocese.
