I WISH to support Michael Pearcy (CL 4/4/10).
His suggestion of an anti-abortion petition in every parish is an excellent one.
Recently there appears to be a considerable increase in numbers attending the anti-abortion marches.
Not everyone desirous of taking part in these can do so for a number of reasons – work, distance etc.
A petition in each parish would enable many more to express their opposition. Remember also, other Christian denominations I am sure would wish to take part.
However, unless this is supported and properly organised, approved by our archbishop and other diocesan bishops (if for all of Queensland), then this will only remain a good idea.
Please also remember there are a number of our Catholics who have taken this cause to the frontline, facing possible jail terms.
Surely there must be Catholic organisations who, when approached, would be capable of this and would be willing to do so with the appropriate assistance.
Maybe each parish could defray the cost by purchasing the petitions etc.
The last thing we need is pro-abortion law as in Victoria.
