I WOULD like to let dear Pat and Lois O’Shea (Have Your Say, CL 12/2/06) know that there were many, many people at the Eucharistic procession through the streets of Brisbane on January 21 who do go out and serve Christ in the poor, the sick, the lonely and the broken-hearted.
However, they first adore and love Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.
It was Mother Teresa of Calcutta who said that without daily adoration she and her sisters were only social workers.
It is their familiarity with the face of Christ that allows them to recognise Him in those with whom they work.
Adoration of God, who is truly present in the Host, under the appearances of bread and wine, is a basic teaching of the Catholic Church.
This belief is the motivation and catalyst as to how we live our lives in the world.
It is unfortunate that some people do not have a proper understanding of this awesome reality.
To take Jesus through the streets of Brisbane, and to have a thousand or more young people accompany Him singing His praises, plus another thousand, older people, was a great spiritual blessing for the city, not a personal psychological boost as the O’Sheas wrongly claim.
One can rest assured that the future of the Church will be in good hands if the young people who attended Adore 06 have anything to do with it, and they will have, thank God.
